3D Easter Crosses - Textiles

The 3rd Graders created their very own 3D Art Easter Cross Creations. They learned about Recycled Art and how you can create beauty from objects you find all around you. They used wooden sticks from trees to form the cross, straw strings to tie the cross together, a small piece of clay as the base, and pieces of material and ribbon as the drapery over the cross. Each cross was to represent what the artist thought of Easter/ How Easter made them feel. Some artists felt the sad and the darkness of the Easter story so they used dark colored textiles over the horizontal of the cross, and others felt the glory and happiness of the Risen Lord and used bright, shiny colors.
For more information on a wonderful textile artist in our region, look up Wayne Hilton, a 3D artist specializing in New Mexico icons! He has been the featured artist inner very own Centennial Library. His exhibit is called "Otra Vez".

WALL ST. LOFT/DOWNTOWN ART - DREW ROBERTSON

CONGRATULATIONS TO DREW ROBERTSON!!!!

Drew's Art was chosen to be displayed in downtown Midland at the Wall Street Lofts!
This was a new idea by both the building owner and the Museum of the Southwest to choose 5 works of art to be displayed in very large format on the outside wall of the Wall Street Lofts. There were 3 students, and 2 adults who were selected. The mayor of Midland, Mr. Morales, was there to award the winners. He liked the idea so much, that he announced he would be encouraging other building owners to agree to display more art around the downtown area. Drew was even interviewed by Channel 2 News!
We are so proud of you, Drew! Way to go!
