“In the beginning God CREATED…” Genesis 1:1. The very first five words of the Bible tell us how God was a Creator! He was our very first artist! Creation is God’s artwork. At St. Ann’s School, the art program is designed to teach the students to appreciate God’s beauty all around us. We too can be creators of beauty. What a wonderful freedom He grants us – the freedom to create! The students are challenged to stretch their creativity and expand their imagination in every art project. They are asked to express themselves, through the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the best of their abilities.
The students are introduced to the Fundamentals of Art, the
Elements of Art, the Principles of Design, and to some of the most popular
artists in history. They are encouraged divergent thinking – to recognize that
not all knowledge must be expressed in words and numbers. Their artwork can
demonstrate comprehension by students who may struggle with traditional
testing, providing them opportunities to succeed. The arts create new
challenges for strong academic learners, taking them out of their “comfort
zones” and requiring new and individualized ways of expressing understanding.
Aesthetics is and integral part of life. God Himself wants
to be glorified through both artistic and musical expression. Let us imagine,
and be creators!
Each Grade Level 1-5, meets once a week in the art room
(upstairs, room 216). St. Ann’s Art Class has helped produce talented,
well-rounded students who appreciate God’s beauty all around them year after
year.
